This 18 inches long, Japanese Akoya pearl strand, consists of fifty-seven matched, spherical shaped pearls, measuring 7-7.5 mm in diameter, strung on a sillk thread, with double knots for extra durability and secured by a 14 karat white gold ball and tongue clasp.

Considered the third most valuable of all pearls (the first being South Sea pearls and the second being Tahitian pearls,) Akoya pearls are the most popular of all saltwater pearls.  Cultured in Japan since the early twentieth century, they are now frequently found originating from China, South Korea, Vietnam and Australia.
